Sometimes I am asked what is home watch.  A home watch is a visual check of the interior and exterior of a home or property looking for obvious issues.  Particular areas of concerns are storm damage, air conditioning operation, humidity level, roof and plumbing leaks.  If a problem is found, steps are immediately taken to resolve the issue.  A detailed report is sent to you the same day of service.

 

It’s interesting that the home watch industry is largely unregulated.  Insurance or bonds are not required, no state or local authority oversees a home watch business, basically anybody can call themselves a home watch company with no accountability.  In 2009 the National Home Watch Association (NHWA) was developed in an effort to set standards, best practices and a code of ethics for members with a goal of protecting you, the homeowner.  My name is John Poudrette, owner of Tarpon Home Watch.  I’m an accredited member of the NHWA.  What that means to you is that I have been vetted to ensure I have met strict guidelines to include proper general and professional liability insurance, proper bond, my criminal background has been checked as well as any consumer complaints.  Every year I am re-accredited by the NHWA and my information is listed on their website.

I have also studied curriculum created by our advisory board, best practices committee as well as other leading home watch business owners through the US and Canada.  I passed the exam and became a certified NHWA home watch professional, setting the gold standard for the home watch industry.
